relating to women and families is an essential component to the work that we do
here at the YWCA.
Our Economic Empowerment Program is dedicated to providing
women and families with the financial information and tools they need in order
make informed financial decisions. Financial education, combined with support, resources
and guidance can assist individuals in making those first steps towards an
effective route out of poverty. The goal of the Economic Empowerment Program is
to assist clients with taking charge of their financial situations. We teach
clients the importance of developing a savings and budgeting plan, how to
repair their credit and how to make financial decisions that are in the best
interest of the families and their futures.
- Financial Literacy Cohorts: Our
financial literacy cohorts is where clients learn how to monitor and repair
their credit, budget, set financial goals and learn how to develop healthy
savings habits. The program is designed to take clients on a seven week journey
to economic empowerment. Besides receiving financial education, the Economic
Empowerment Program serves as a referral service that helps clients to overcome
other barriers to economic empowerment. Our financial literacy cohorts are
facilitated by our partners at Consolidated Credit.
- Financial Workshops: The
topics covered in the financial literacy cohorts are also taught outside of the
cohort setting. Workshops covering; Credit, Budgeting, Savings, Goals planning
and more are available for presentation purposes at schools, churches and other
community organizations and non-profits.
- VITA (Voluntary Income Tax Assistance)
Partner: The VITA program offers free tax help to people
who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited
English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax
returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return
preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
